Learn French
If you are living in France, it’s an imperative that you learn French if you want to be understood by your new neighbours. But even if you are only coming for a visit to France, it is quite important to know how to speak basic French.
Knowing how to speak the even just a few words of the language will give you a more enjoyable and meaningful trip. French students learn English as a second language in school, but verly little of that education is spent actually speaking English. So you will also find that the French people understand any difficulties you may have speaking their language and they will more readily help you if you make some effort to converse with them in their own language.
