Mark asks…
A SURVEY: “what’s WRONG with America?” – shouldn’t we consider UP-DATING TO THE 21st CENTURY?
PLEASE! Unless you are willing to respond to this survey as out-lined, PLEASE DON’T BOTHER!
In light of the political malaise, almost total dysfunction at times of our governmental institutions at all levels – including state and local – don’t you think it might be worthwhile to consider up-dating to the 21st century?
(1) our bicameral form of national government simply isn’t working anymore: should we adopt the unicameral form like that of the UK, or Israel?
I’ve watched the Parliamentary harangues of the British, where the Prime Minister debates with the members of Parliament; and frankly think it would be a great idea were such to occur in this county.
Or perhaps we should take a look at that of the French legislative process – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_of_France
Money should be taken out of our politics completely IMHO: all elections should be financed from tax revenues, and the media – all forms – required to subsidize individual candidates platforms/speeches and debates between candidates.
(2) Or at least, consider a different form of national elections? Again, I would recommend that of the French model: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elections_in_France
(3) our economic system? Oh God! Where to begin? A total MESS. The almighty “Dollar” is no longer———————-”ALL MIGHTY”: what’s to be done? Here, I leave it totally up to you(sorry to cop out).
(4) our educational system: again, a TOTAL MESS. I would prefer a Federal System – the states have to much power in this regard in my opinion, and should be reigned in. Why should Texas set the standard for Textbooks, for all the other states?
(5) the military, and national policies: RIDICULOUS/ABSURD in the extreme – we should stop presuming to police the entire globe; and leave all international disputes to be settled by NATO or similar organizations, and/or an EMPOWERED, revamped and effective United Nations.
(6) our legal system: what it has become is a downright shame in my opinion. If justice is to be had, it’s only for those who can afford it. It has become so complex as to be unfathomable; and for the common man/individual without financial means, impossible to navigate. What shall we do?
(7) have I forgotten anything?
