The Dordogne (dept. 24) is placed to take advantage of speedier rail links to Paris and Spain – so enhancing tourism – as strategies for TGV routes for the South West are revealed.
The new proposed tracks for the Lignes à Grandes Vitesses connecting Bordeaux-Toulouse and Bordeaux-Spain could very well cut journey time from Dordogne to Paris to three hours and Dordogne to Spain to four hours.
The journey from Bordeaux to Madrid is going to be reduced from almost five hours to three-and-a-half hours.
A brand new TGV terminal at Agen on the Toulouse line will connect to the Dordogne rail network via the Périgueux / Le Buisson / Belvès TER route.
Marc Becret, spokesman for the Conseil Général, said this is extremely good news.
The Chamber of Commerce welcomed the progress as being a step in the right direction stating it was “urgent and essential for the Dordogne to get a place on the new network”.
Jean-François Martinet, of Périgord rail users’ group, says he he can see no good reason why there should not eventually be a train from London to the Dordogne.
